Scan a QR code from a screenshot

Got a QR code as a picture on your phone? Choose it here to see what's inside and open it. Nothing is uploaded: it's read right here on this page.

Read on this page. The picture is never uploaded.

When the code is on your own screen

Someone sends you a QR code in a chat or email, and the phone you'd scan it with is the one showing it. Here's how to open it anyway.

Save or screenshot it

Save the picture from the chat, or take a screenshot of the screen showing the code.

Choose it here

Pick the picture from your photos. The code is read right away, in any browser, with no app to install.

Check, then open

You see the full link first, so you can spot a fake address before you tap it. Then open it, copy it, or join the Wi-Fi.

Questions

How do I scan a QR code that's on my own phone?

Take a screenshot or save the picture, then choose it on this page. It reads the code and gives you a button to open the link, copy it, join the Wi-Fi or save the contact.

Can my phone do this without a website?

Often, yes. On an iPhone, open the picture in Photos and press and hold the code. On Android, open it in Google Photos or Google Lens. If that doesn't work, or you're on a computer, use this page.

Is my picture uploaded?

No. The picture is read by your browser on this page. Neither it nor what's inside it is sent anywhere.

It says no QR code was found. What now?

Zoom in and take a new screenshot so the code fills more of it, with the whole code in view. Very blurry, tiny or partly covered codes can't be read.

Is it safe to open the link?

Check the website name shown in bold before you open it. A QR code can lead anywhere, so only open links you expect, and be careful with pages that ask for passwords or payments.
